About Us
Cloud Mountain Farm Center, nestled against the Cascade foothills in rural Whatcom County, has been a working farm since 1978. We grow a wide variety of tree fruits, as well as berries and table grapes. In 2011 we became a nonprofit educational farm center, with a mission to build experience, knowledge, and community to expand dynamic local food systems. In addition to our production orchards and vineyards, our other key programs include organic fruit market development, incubating new farm businesses, educating home gardeners, and crop and production trials; we also serve as the northernmost distribution partner of the Puget Sound Food Hub.
Practices
We grow all our fruit using organic practices. Our peaches, table grapes, strawberries, and kiwi berries are all Certified Organic through WSDA, and apples, pears, plums and other tree fruits and berries are all currently Certified Transitional through WSDA. We focus on optimization of plant health as the best defense against pest and disease pressure, and practice frequent pest monitoring, soil and plant tissue testing, targeted applications of compost, mulch, and organic nutrient inputs, and stringent orchard sanitation standards and understory cultivation practices. Our fruit production is GAP Certified (Good Agricultural Practices), demonstrating our commitment to food safety.
