Practices
At Sakuma Bros. Farms and Processing, environmental sustainability is central to how we farm, process, and operate. As a multi-generational, family-owned company in Skagit County, Washington, we recognize our responsibility to steward the land and water resources that sustain our crops, our community, and future generations. We employ integrated pest management practices, minimize chemical use, and invest in biological controls and soil health through crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic amendments. Our fields are regularly monitored for soil fertility and water usage to ensure efficient and

responsible application of inputs and irrigation. We utilize advanced drip irrigation systems and moisture sensors to conserve water while maintaining high-quality yields. We also recycle our processing wastewater and reuse it for irrigation on our fields, helping to conserve freshwater resources and close the loop between our farming and processing operations. 3 In our processing facilities, we actively work to reduce energy consumption and minimize food waste. We participate in recycling and food recovery programs, and we are pursuing opportunities to divert fruit byproducts to secondary uses such as livestock feed or energy digestion. We continually evaluate and upgrade our cold storage and processing systems to improve energy efficiency and reduce our overall carbon footprint. Sakuma Bros. is also actively engaged in local environmental and water management policy. We serve on advisory boards and participate in regional planning efforts to advocate for working lands, water conservation, and floodplain restoration strategies that support both agricultural viability
