About Us
We are a woman owned and run farm. Having worked at Cedarville Farm for 6 seasons before starting my own business I gained a lot of experience and a deep appreciation for growing and cultivating food. I am an outdoor enthusiast who owns a deep care for the world around us and realizes that our actions have a big impact. I am very conscious of where my food is sourced and try to encourage others to have the same awareness.
Practices
We are a no till farm using permaculture methods to improve the health and longevity of our garden. We break ground with heavy duty, non-leach silage tarps. Our beds are permanent as are our pathways and we use a deep mulch system to keep the weeds at bay. We start all our own seeds here on the farm in our propagation house, using a homemade soil mix and soil blocks. We find the soil blocks give our seedlings the best start in life and prevent transplant shock. Once transplanted into the soil we use drip irrigation to minimize our water usage and prevent over head watering diseases. Once the crop is harvested we leave as much of the roots in the soil as possible to allow the microbial life to feast. At the ends of our garden beds we plant native flowers, both annual and perennial to attract native pollinators. We practice minimal mowing around the garden to encourage insect predators such as wasps to help with pest control. Rather than using pesticides, which kill all creatures good and bad, we use row covers to protect our crops from bug damage, such as worms and flea beetles. Our weed pressure is lowered by our deep mulch method, which means we do not need to use herbicides.
